Current CNA certification, prefer BLS or within 6 months of hire. Prefer completion of Basic Cardiac Interpretation class or within 1 hear of hire.
Provides patient care as directed by the Registered Nurse.
Provides basic nursing care to non-acutely ill patients within the Certified Nursing Assistant’s (CNAs) scope of practice that includes actions that meet psychosocial needs and physical needs.
Provides general aspects of care that meet psychosocial or physical needs or both simultaneously, within the CNAs scope of practice.
Meets communication needs of patients.
Demonstrates performance reflecting the initiative and responsibility expected of a CNA.
Performs other duties as assigned, within the CNAs scope of practice.
Assists in admission, transfer and discharge of patient.
Performs basic patient care responsibilities considering needs specific to the standard of care for patient’s age.
Notifies appropriate licensed personnel when patient complains of pain.
Demonstrates ability to communicate to the Registered Nurse any observed changes in patient status and responses. Maintains awareness of the needs of the pediatric, geriatric and general patient population.
Demonstrates ability to assist with feeding patients and maintaining fluid balance with technique appropriate for patient’s age and physical condition.
Provides explanation to patient and family prior to administering care to patient; answers questions within scope of practice.
Demonstrates ability to perform treatments and provide services within scope of practice.
Demonstrates ability to monitor continuous telemetry effectively and respond to alarms appropriately.
Communicates appropriately and clearly to RN, Hospitalist RN, Director of Inpatient Nursing, and co-workers.
Consults other departments as appropriate to provide for an interdisciplinary approach to the patient’s needs.
Provides care appropriate to condition and age of the patient, including pediatric, geriatric and general patient population.
Willingness to cross-train and assist other HCHC departments.
Maintains and respects all patient rights and cares for the patient in a dignified and compassionate manner.
Maintains and respects all patient related information (confidentiality).
Acts as a role model to all staff, displaying exemplary behavior and attitude at all times while at work or at HCHC functions.
Set the example of professionalism of HCHC and nursing on and off the unit.

Assists and supports unit and organizational quality initiatives.

Identifies and performs service recovery as needed.
Supports the philosophy, goals, and objectives of the Nursing Division.
Successful completion of skills checklist within 45 days of hire.
Attends all mandatory inservices / education within HCHC.
Assists with maintenance of equipment assigned to patient care and reports problems and orders service as needed.

Minimum of 2 years of high school, prefer graduate or equivalent
Current certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant.
Current status on the Iowa Nurse Aide Registry or grandfathered status or obtain within 4 months preferred
Prefer current training in BLS for HCW.
Prefer completion of Basic Cardiac Rhythm Interpretation class within 1 year of hire.
Prefer current health related experience within the past five (5) years. LONG TERM CARE:
- Nurse aides who can document prior to July 1, 1989 they completed the Iowa required 20 hour on-the-job training course before working with residents and the 60 hour nurse aide course will not need to take competency test.
- Nurse aides hired after July 1, 1989 have completed a 75 hour state-approved training program and pass a state approved competency test within four months of employment.
